Shrinkage of wood has an impact on the design and detailling of timber structures. But not enough is known about the actual time dependant shrinkage in real mass timber buildings. In this project a field research will be done in which existing mass timber buildings are assessed on shrinkage induced problems. The size of cracks in the wooden elements and the actual moisture content in the wood are measured. This information is used to get a better understanding of actual shrinkage induced issues in real mass timber buildings.
